Changing of the Hues!

With all the exterior painting that is taking place On Crooked Creek.. .it was definitely time for the changing of the Hues!

While I adored the pink tulips that previously were placed in my flat door basket, they left something to be desired with the exterior hue of Mark Twain House Bark!

So~o~o. . .while "Mr. Ed" was busily painting away on the house. . . I did a make~over of the front porch decor!

Beginning with my flat door basket, I chose faux Shasta daisies, similar to those grown in the garden On Crooked Creek! I tucked in some snowballs, a few bits of greenery and added one of my signature bows!

A much needed change for this painless window frame On Crooked Creek!

Next came the three ~ tiered, wrought iron, corner plant stand.

I left the decor untouched on the middle shelf. This is one of the first birdhouses made by my dad when "Mr.Ed" and I purchased our second home in South East Kansas. I adore the authenticity of this faux birds nest!

This pot of soft, buttery hued, faux marigolds sits at the top of the shelf!

On the bottom shelf is a pot of soft, buttery hued, faux primrose paired with a concrete white rabbit from my beloved MoMa's garden!

The three~tiered, wrought iron, corner shelf in its entirety. Such subtle changes make a huge impact! I am so lovin' that soft, buttery yellow hue this Spring!

At the base of the corner shelf sits a primitive, green wooden box. Filled with another pair of hares On Crooked Creek!

As my 'bunny love' affair continues, I am so smitten with this little cutie! That terra cotta chip in his ear makes my heart swoon!

His adorable mate has chips of terra cotta on her back side! To accentuate the pair, I placed chippy white pots of faux snowballs as a backdrop.

Placed near the entry On Crooked Creek, these are well protected from extreme weather under the covered portion of the porch.

A much welcome Changing of the Hues On Crooked Creek!

Until next time. . .

My Longing Soul. . .

L o n g  before the sun rises ~ On Crooked Creek ~ with its warm, awakening glow ~ I'm up!

We lacked any measurable accumulation of snow making our Winter ~ On Crooked Creek ~  grey and dreary . This year, I have l o n g e d  for Springs arrival!

The soft, awakening of pastel hues has filled my l o n g i n g soul with tranquil satisfaction.

I can not seemingly surround myself with ample portions of buttery, soft yellow hues! This calming color seems to revive me from the depths of my soul.

Therefore, the simplistic arrangement of this tablescape is to allow the buttery hue to be the main attraction.

On Crooked Creek, everyday white dinner plates serve as chargers for my petite, scalloped dinner plates. Simply topped with saucers allows the scalloped rims of the dinner plates to be enhanced.

A new find are these vintage luncheon napkins featuring intricate candlewicking and eyelet detailing with scalloped satin edges. Simply placed at the top are my shabby white bird napkin rings.

The pair of mourning doves ~much like those that make their daily visit to the feeders here On Crooked Creek ~ remind of what has passed.

Simple beaded flatware, bee and bubble stemware complete our everyday place settings.

On Crooked Creek, the buttery hues of Spring have begun to quench my desire for lighter, softer hues and have filled
my l o n g i n g soul. . .

Until next time . . .

Mother's Day Trayscape. . .

On Crooked Creek ~ April Showers brought about Classic Rose China to the dining room hutch just in time for a Mother's Day Trayscape!

When purchasing table linens such as place mats, napkins, runners and table toppers; I always check the reverse side for versatility in my home decor. This table topper is no exception...I adore the buttery yellow background with its dainty pink rosebud print. The hues in the topper are so compatible with those in the ruffled lampshade.

Since the silver tea set has been relocated to a place of honor on the vintage tea cart in the living room, I borrowed the ivory metal footed tray from the Guest Room.

Going for a more Romantic Prairie Style and to satisfy the hopeless romantic in me, I placed my favorite seasonal print behind the tray to soften the honey oak of the hutch.

Then, I added a vintage crocheted doily atop the tray. The scallops of the hand crocheted doily mimic the ruffle of the lampshade. Oh, so~o~o romantically feminine!

The tray is set for Tea~for~One using my favorite white porcelain pear tea pot, lidded creamer and lidded sugar bowl. I adore this Avon collectible from my former years as an Avon Sales Representative.

My treasured, hand painted Lefton China tea cup and saucer gifted to me by my beloved Mother~in~law is joined with my Buttons and Bows pink depression glass. Milk pitcher, creamer and lidded sugar bowl make this perfect for a breakfast tray!

Do you think "Mr. Ed" will make his famous waffles and serve them with fresh strawberries, whipped cream and my all time favorite raspberry tea for a surprise Mother's Day breakfast?

On Crooked Creek...only in my visions of romantic fantasy!!!

The addition of Artfully Done Across Generations Recipes of  Carlene Banks & Friends Art from the Wichita Art Museum has replaced the vintage botanical strawberry print. This beautiful book includes a fabulous collection of 538 best recipes from Carlene Banks and friends, over 100 works of art from the Wichita Art Museum, and historical tidbits about changes in the kitchen over the past century. All proceeds benefit the Wichita Art Museum. A French Market bucket holds faux sweetheart roses to complete the romantic look.

House Painting. . .Day 1!

When we arrived On Crooked Creek. . .our home was painted blue with black shutters and a huge black  E  between the front door and the entry windows. The blue had faded terribly! The black shutters had a few broken boards and the  E  was embedded into the wood!

High priority on  "Mr.Ed's" long 'to~do' list was painting the exterior of our home.

So~o~o. . .we walked around the cul~de~sac trying to decide on a shade that would bring our home harmoniously into the neighborhood! We chose Thyme (green)! Being a herb gardener, I adored the name. . .and this hue blended well with the natural stone work on the front.

When the shutters came down, I begged NOT to have them return. "Mr. Ed" and our son, built wider frames for the windows. Windows and trim painted Almond Paste added a lightness to our home that had been missing for many years!

Then came the upgrades. . .

First. . .it was new garage doors!
I must admit...they were a HUGE improvement!

After the replacement of the sewer line from the house to the main, our son designed and built (with "Mr. Ed's" help) a new deck On Crooked Creek! I adore having morning coffee, evening tea and weekend breakfast on our deck!!!

On Crooked Creek, as is with life. . .sometimes a storm comes along. . .and then there's a new roof!

This Spring we toured the Parade of Homes. NO ~ we're not moving! We knew it was, once again, time to update the exterior of our home and wanted to see the new hues in homes!

Taking the roof shingle shades, the natural stone hue and an updating in home exterior finishes in our town. . .we came home with two new color samples!
The hue on the left is Fudgecicle. . . the hue on the right is Mark Twain House Bark.

The shade above is Mark Twain House Bark. . .the shade below is Fudgecicle!
Decisions, decisions, decisions!

Oh, yes!!!
A decision has been made!
"Mr. Ed" has already begun and the results, thus far, are making us both smile!!!

You're going like the way it looks!!!

Until next time. . .

Just a note:

Being 'goal oriented' we've given ourselves 30 days to finish! Our progress will be posted on my FaceBook page!
