2012. . .Excess Baggage!

No New Year Resolutions here On Crooked Creek;
however there seems to be quite a bit of excess baggage that certainly needs to be dealt with!

2012 . . . Excess Baggage!

The excess baggage in this post refers to my vintage luggage or suitcase collection.

The baggage shown above is a Samsonite Train Case and Overnight Bag similar to the ones my maternal grandmother, Susie used when she traveled from Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri to Garden Grove, California to visit her youngest daughter, Norma Jean. Grandma Ford called her baggage her "grip"!

A vintage brown, hard shell suitcase with leather edges and a paper interior called an Overnight or Satchel.

Another vintage brown, Samsonite overnight suitcase complete with keys!

From t o o many Christmases past, was the gift of a three ~ piece red Samsonite Suitcase set. Each suitcase closed and then fit nicely inside the other. The largest, called the weekender; the medium size, called traveler; and finally the smallest, called the overnighter. The only remaining piece of my luggage is the overnighter and being in terrible array...I decoupaged it to conceal its battle scars.

. . . and sometimes excess baggage is put on display.

From On Crooked Creek. . .
no resolutions. . .
just excess baggage in the form of vintage luggage  collections!

                                                       Happy New Year!

Until next time. . .

Now that's the kind of excess baggage to have. Love how you use them for your vignettes. It's great that you have the cream color/beige Samsonite..I had that orangey brown color...high school graduation present. Thanks for sharing your vintage luggage collection.

Babs

Wow that luggage looks way too familiar to be "vintage." We have some of those pieces in our attic! Funny how suitcase styles come and go just like clothes or anything else!

Happy New Year Pat!

Oh my! You called it her grip! Haven't heard that term in a long time! :)

I have a couple of Samsonite suitcases from me from the 60's that my daughter Alexandra took to her apartment years ago and I'm glad, otherwise I would've dropped it in the trash! I love your last pic with the ornies and the mittens, so cute and vintage. You cracked me up with your comment about my curtain-tablecloth, you gave me a good laugh! Happy New Year sweet lady, the best for you!

I have no luggage! I got rid of it when we moved. We don't travel, so I just have a LeSortsac duffle for the occasional overnight.
So in that respect, no excess baggage. But let's not talk about excess dishes, etc!
Happy 2012!

My sister had a three piece set of the white Samsonite. I borrowed a case to use as my "goin' to the hospital birthin' bag" in 1964.:-) I wonder what ever happened to that luggage.

Pat,

Thanks for leaving a comment over on my blog. I do try and visit other blogs even if I can't comment on all of them. I love your vintage suitcases. I really like your wonderland tablescape. I love blue, white and silver snowflakes. You'll have to visit me again soon, I have a new mantel to reveal soon. :)
